Title: Children’s Central Nervous System Embryonal Tumors: The Age of Targeted Therapeutics
Abstract: Children with embryonal tumors (ET) of the central nervous system (CNS) can have a variety of aggressive malignancies. It used to be that the overlapping morphological These lesions’ characteristics complicated diagnosis and prevented the development of effective treatment plans. However, thanks to improvements in genomic technology and the flood of biological data over the past ten years, it is now possible to clearly understand the molecular heterogeneity of these tumors. The three main subtypes of pediatric atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumors (ATRT), embryonal tumors with multilayered rosettes (ETMR), and medulloblastoma are now recognized as distinct biological and clinical entities. These significant advancements have paved the way for novel targeted therapies and treatments based on risk stratification in an effort to increase survival and lessen the burden of treatment.
