Title: Cannabidiol and the effectiveness of chemotherapy and epigenetic cancer treatments
Abstract: Numerous studies have shown how well cannabinoids work to treat chronic neuropathic pain and anxiety. Cannabidiol (CBD), an over-the-counter medication, has sparked increased interest in its use in the field of oncology due to its wide availability as a non-intoxicating substance. This review focuses on the CBD’s broad therapeutic potential with respect to improved wound healing, decreased chemotherapeutic toxicity profiles, and increased antitumorigenic effects. Given the biphasic nature of the compound’s response, there is currently little research on determining the clinically relevant concentrations of CBD. Therefore, more dose-finding research is urgently needed to establish the ideal CBD dosage for both occasional and regular users. We discuss the potential impact of regular or irregular CBD use on the prognosis of patients with ovarian cancer. Furthermore, because chemoresistance in ovarian cancer leads to treatment failure, the possibility that CBD could improve the effectiveness of traditional chemotherapeutic and epigenetic drugs is a significant issue. Our review focuses on the CBD’s broad therapeutic potential and explores whether or not it can work in synergy with conventional chemotherapy drugs and drugs that target the epigenome.
