Title: Antibiotic Resistance and Discovery: The Hunt and the Race
Abstract: AMR is a long-standing natural phenomenon, according to the evolution of AMR’s history and the diversity of environmental resistance. Antibiotic use by humans, which promotes the selection of resistant genes, is a public health concern known as acquired resistance. Data indicate that AMR is spreading at varying rates throughout the world and outpacing all attempts to contain this crisis. One of the most important tactics in the fight against AMR is the search for new antibiotic classes. Since the 1980s, new antibiotics on the market have either been enhanced or modified versions of existing molecules. The World Health Organization (WHO) laments the pipeline’s current state and issues a dire warning about the lack of fresh leads. Few antibiotics, primarily those that do not meet the innovative criteria to combat the difficult spread of AMR, may hit the market in the next few years, according to a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the pre-clinical and clinical pipeline. The mainstays for coping with the rapid evolution of AMR are diversity and innovation. Antibiotic resistance must be taken into account during the discovery and development of new antibiotics. In this article, we examine the development of antibiotics, discuss its challenges, and discuss various mechanisms for generating novel, innovative leads that are intended to replenish the pipeline while offering a promising opportunity to change the direction of the conflict between the spread of AMR, maintaining antibiotic efficacy, and generating novel, innovative leads.
