Title: Zespó antyfosfolipidowy — joint criteria for understanding teaching policies
Abstract: Hughes et al. first identified the antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) in 1986, followed by Harris et al. in 1987. The presence of autoantibodies against plasma and serum proteins that interact with the phospholipids in cell membranes to form complexes is linked to the presence of disease symptoms. Venous and arterial thrombosis are caused by the immunologic process involving vascular endothelium, thrombocytes, and coagulation factors, which enhances procoagulation mechanisms. The 11th International Congress on Antiphospholipid Antibodies, held in Sydney in 2004, led to the publication of the actual criteria for APS recognition in 2006. The present paper discussed disease multiorgan symptoms, diagnostic standards, and therapeutic approaches.
