Title: Working Memory in Written Composition: A 1996 Model Evaluation
Abstract: A model of working memory that Kellogg devised demonstrates how it is possible to simplify the process of preparing thoughts, converting those ideas into written words, and analyzing ideas and material that has already been written down. The work done by Baddeley served as the inspiration for this model (1986). The Kellogg model illustrates how working memory makes it easier to organize ideas, put them into written sentences, and examine ideas and material that have been prepared in advance (1996). “The fundamental principle that the central executive is responsible for all aspects of planning, translating, and evaluating was shown to have substantial support in an update report based on research conducted over the course of the previous 17 years.” It was decided that a significant amount of evidence supports this conclusion. However, it is debatable whether the phonological loop is subjected to any restrictions due to editing. In a similar vein, having the capacity to use verbal working memory is essential in order to translate ideas into sentences. As was to be expected according to the mod L, the visuospatial sketchpad is employed during the entire design process in addition to its regular use. It is immediately obvious, however, that this can only be the case if the planning process is carried out utilizing concrete ideas that evoke mental pictures in the individual. As a result of this oversight, the model’s first iteration did not consider that applying abstract ideas does not necessarily require deploying visuospatial resources. In addition, it is not known how much of a person’s visual working memory is engaged throughout the planning process compared to their spatial working memory.
