Description
Title: What role does regional integration play in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU)?
Abstract: This study examines and describes the interactions that took place between the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) member nations between 1995 and 2015. Sigma-convergence and the Dendrinos-Sonis spatial competition model, which is estimated using the SUR method, are both used in the analysis. The findings support the idea of income polarization in space and a very poorly integrated region with relatively competitive interrelationships. They also demonstrate a lack of convergence of living standards. In the WAEMU region, the paper recommends accelerating regional integration along with the adoption of inclusive integration regulations that support each member’s unique advantages.
