Title: Ursolic Acid’s Therapeutic Potential in Cancer and Diabetes-Related Neuropathy
Abstract: The pentacyclic triterpenoid ursolic acid (UA), which has a variety of pharmacological effects, is frequently found in medicinal herbs and plants. Cancer, diabetic neuropathy, and inflammatory diseases are just a few of the illnesses that UA and its analogs treat. UA scavenges free radicals, inducing a number of anti- and pro-apoptotic proteins, and inhibiting cancer growth, metastasis, and angiogenesis. The biochemistry of UA has been studied extensively based on the literature. Several UA derivatives with improved potency, bioavailability, and water solubility have been produced by frequently preparing alterations on positions C-3 (hydroxyl), C12-C13 (double bonds), and C-28 (carboxylic acid). Through its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, UA may be used as a protective agent to combat neural dysfunction. It is a potential therapeutic drug that has been linked to the treatment of diabetic complications and cancer, and it offers new machinery for UA’s anti-inflammatory properties. The therapeutic theory of one drug several targets one/multiple diseases illustrates the pharmacological effectiveness of UA. As a result, UA exhibits promising therapeutic potential for diseases like cancer and diabetic neuropathy. The purpose of this review is to discuss mechanistic insights into the potentially advantageous effects of UA. We went on to discuss the pharmacological aspects, clinical studies, and potential drawbacks of using UA to treat cancer and diabetic neuropathy.
