Title: Update on Molecular Breeding for Soybean Biotic Stress Resistance
Abstract: Leguminous crops like soybeans (Glycine max (L.) Merr.), an important one, are concerned about biotic stresses on a global scale. Significant progress has been made in recent decades in identifying the pathogens that cause diseases, locating the sources of resistance, and identifying the loci on soybean linkage maps that confer various disease resistances. Hostplant resistance is widely regarded as the best solution because of its role in managing the economic and environmental conditions that farmers face due to its low chemical input. The primary goals of soybean crop improvement are based on the discovery of sources of resistance to various biotic as well as abiotic stresses and the use of these sources for additional hybridization and transgenic processes to develop new cultivars for stress management. The goal of the current review is to summarize current molecular breeding research as well as genetic aspects of various diseases caused by pathogens in soybeans.
