Title: The Use of Lymphatic Tissue Bioengineering to Treat Postoperative Lymphedema
Abstract: Lymphedema is characterized by progressive and ongoing inflammation and tissue swelling that results from localized interstitial fluid buildup brought on by lymphatic injury or dysfunction. It is a crippling condition with few effective treatments that adversely affects a patient’s quality of life. Lymphatic tissue bioengineering and regeneration have improved as a result of greater understanding of the molecular mechanisms and pathophysiology of lymphedema and developments in tissue engineering technologies. emerged as a possible treatment for postoperative lymphedema. Stem cells, lymphangiogenic factors, bioengineered matrices, and mechanical stimuli are some of the techniques used to more precisely control the regeneration of lymphatic tissue at the site of lymphedema without exposing patients to the risks or iatrogenic harms associated with surgeries. This review offers an overview of the most cutting-edge methods currently being used in lymphatic tissue bioengineering, which offers a promising course of treatment for postoperative lymphedema.
