Title: The Use of a Clustering Approach on Financial Data to Improve Financial Integration in the European Capital Market
Abstract: In 2009, when the effects of the economic crisis were fully felt, nations all over the world—from the USA, where the crisis started, through Europe to Asia—experienced negative effects. The financial market frequently experiences economic cycles, fluctuations, and crises, such as the crises of 1929 and 2000. An important element in this process is the economy’s recovery. Future financial crises with a supranational and transnational character are very likely due to the increasingly potent process of globalization, the growth in the interconnectedness of individual economies, as well as increased pressure on the formation of integration clusters. It is possible for a crisis to spread quickly across the globe, so it is crucial for us to be equipped with the right tools in case this happens. The financial metrics that define and shape the capital market in the European Union will be the focus of this article. We create groups of nations that are similar to one another using cluster analysis. We identify which nations lead and which, on the other hand, trail the rest of Europe.
