Title: The Study of Cellular Mechanotransduction Using Biophysical Methods
Abstract: Volumetrically separating cellular components from their surroundings is accomplished by the cell membrane. The biological functions of proteins on and inside the membrane are numerous. functions include receiving external biochemical signals through membrane channels, amplifying and controlling chemical signals via secondary messenger molecules, controlling exocytosis, endocytosis, and phagocytosis, as well as organizing the recruitment and sequestration of cytosolic complex proteins and cell division procedures. The physiologically controlled release and accumulation of electrochemical potential modulating molecules across the membrane through specialized ion channels (such as Na+, Ca2+, and K+ channels) is what enables the membrane’s bioelectrical function. The biomechanical functions of the membrane include the transmission of forces, specific conformational changes, and/or signaling via mechanoreceptors embedded in the membrane, such as platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule (PECAM), vascular endothelial (VE)-cadherin, epithelial (E)-cadherin, and integrin. Certain mechanical stimulations cause electrical and/or chemical impulses in cells, which spread among cells and tissues through specific receptor complexes. These biomechanical sensory and biochemical reactions have significant effects on both healthy and diseased physiology. Here, we go over the resources that make it easier to comprehend mechanosensitive adhesion receptors. In order to introduce a freshmen mechanobiologist to the field of echanotransduction, this article is organized to give a thorough background in biochemistry and mechanobiology. Many of the references cited herein also make it possible to pursue further research in this area.
