Title: The Spanish ITP Expert Group’s Consensus Approach to the Management of Adult Patients with Primary Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) in Clinical Practice

Abstract: Background and Goals. Primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) diagnosis and treatment have undergone significant change in the previous ten years. The study’s objective was to learn what the Spanish ITP Group (GEPTI) members thought were the most effective clinical procedures for diagnosing and treating adult patients with ITP. Materials and procedures A 90-item questionnaire created by 11 experts was sent to 129 experts, and the responses were evaluated using a 4-point Likert scale (“never,” “sometimes,” “frequently,” and “always”). This was done using the two-round Delphi method. Results. Out of the 129 experts, 40 took part in the survey (30.2% participation rate), and 39 finished it (97.5% response rate). Significant consensus recommendations included the following: not exceeding 6-7 weeks of corticosteroid therapy; switching from corticosteroids to one thrombopoietin receptor agonist (TRA); switching to another TRA or other alternative therapies; indicating workup studies from a sustained platelet count 100 x 109/L in the absence of a clear etiology; bone marrow aspiration in elderly patients with suspected ITP; starting treatment in asymptomatic patients with Conclusions.
