Title: The role of phytonutrients in the perspective of nutrigenetics and nutrigenomics in the treatment of breast cancer
Abstract: One of the most prevalent cancers, breast cancer (BC), is a major cause of death in women. The onset and progression of BC are influenced by a number of genes and epigenetic modifications. Phytochemistry, nutrigenomics, and nutrigenetics research have given There is compelling evidence that some phytonutrients can modify gene expression at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. These phytonutrients might also be useful for treating and preventing BC. The effects of various phytochemicals, such as polyphenols, phytosterols, terpenoids, alkaloids, and other substances from various sources on nutrigenomic function will be the main focus of this review. Overall, it has been discovered that these phytonutrients work through a number of different molecular pathways to reduce BC cell proliferation, differentiation, invasion, metastasis, and angiogenesis, as well as to trigger apoptotic cell death. Additionally, they affect epigenetic processes and raise the chemo- and radiosensitivity of cancer cells. In the future, these phytochemicals might be used to effectively manage BC patients in a clinical setting. In this article, the specific molecular pathways associated with the genetic effects of phytochemicals in British Columbia are outlined.
