Title: The cross sections for electron impact ionization of methanol, ethanol, and 1-propanol
Abstract: The total ionization cross sections of methanol, ethanol, and 1-propanol from the ionization threshold to 10 MeV were calculated in the current study using the plane-wave Born approximation. For this technique, continuum generalized oscillator strengths are required (CGOSs). Used alongside an approximation of the continuum optical oscillator strength (COOS) by Khare et al. were the two distinct semi-phenomenological expressions of CGOS provided by Mayol and Salvat and Weizsacker and Williams. Additionally, the average of the aforementioned two CGOSs was employed. The calculated ionization cross sections were contrasted with the previously published theoretical and experimental findings that were available. The current results with the average CGOS were found to be in good agreement with the available experimental results for all the molecules under consideration out of the three CGOSs. From 0.1 to 100 MeV, collision parameters CRP were also calculated, and it was discovered that the calculations perfectly matched Reike and Prepejchal’s experimental findings.
