Title: The COVID-19 Era: Sector Performance Influencers from a Canadian Perspective
Abstract: In Toronto, Canada’s largest urban center, the study calculates the effect of COVID-19 on the labor market outcomes of important industrial sectors. We categorize the sectors as distressed, stable, and those needing ongoing monitoring using a variety of economic data. In addition, we employ the Impulse Response Function (IRF) approach to calculate the anticipated impact of the pandemic shock. The findings demonstrate the pandemic’s uneven effects, with detrimental effects for low-wage front-facing industries like hospitality & food services and manufacturing. The post-pandemic predictions indicate that various sectors will continue to suffer negative effects. The information is useful for formulating policy recommendations, such as targeted measures to address structural changes and declines in these industries brought on by rising technology adoption and the difficulties it creates for the labor market.
