Title: Role of bacteria in the diagnosis and treatment of allergic disease
Abstract: The development and proper operation of the human immune system depend on a physiological gastrointestinal microflora dominated by lactic acid bacteria. As a result, the elimination of lactic acid bacteria followed by the colonization of the intestinal tract by other anaerobes appears to be a key step in the pathogenesis of many diseases, including allergy. In this paper, the immunomodulatory potential of physiological intestinal microflora and its impact on physiological immune reactivity are discussed. The effectiveness of probiotic dietary supplements in the prevention and treatment of allergic diseases is critically reviewed in this article.
