Description
Title: Review of Understanding Acquired Brain Injury
Abstract: Acquired brain injury refers to any type of brain damage that occurs after birth (ABI). ABI typically does not result from birth trauma, degenerative diseases, or congenital disorders of the brain. The human brain is enveloped in layers of tissue and bone and floats in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which is nutrient-rich, but it is still vulnerable to injury and impairment. The normal neuronal tissue activity and/or structure in one or more areas of the brain are altered as a result of ABI, which frequently affects normal brain functions. Depending on the severity of the injury, the effects of an ABI can last anywhere from a few days to a lifetime. Despite this, many patients struggle to reintegrate into society because of potential psychological and physical side effects. For a deeper understanding of the topic and to raise awareness among the general public, we will discuss ABI pathologies, their types, and cellular mechanisms in this review. We will also briefly touch on the therapeutic approaches.
