Title: Restructuring the National Innovative Capacity Framework: A View from the European Union
Abstract: This paper aims to update the national innovative capacity framework and detail how its components affect how well the EU member states perform in terms of innovation. The EU member states from 2000 to 2018 are the study’s empirical subjects. The gathered information is used in a multivariate Granger causality analysis, which highlights the causal relationships and takes into account the dynamics of the analyzed indicators. The findings show that countries looking to boost innovative output levels should concentrate primarily on scientific excellence and global economic activities. The framework was revised in order to identify causal relationships between gender equality and corruption and all types of innovation indicators, including technological, non-technological, and commercial ones. The findings of this study highlight the key areas where EU member states should concentrate in order to enhance their national innovation performance, and they could help policymakers when developing future innovation policies.
