Title: Response of Non-Coding RNAs to Drought Stress
Abstract: Plants’ morphological, physiological, biochemical, and molecular characteristics change as a result of drought stress. Different plants may respond to drought in different ways, ranging from avoidance, tolerance, and escape to stress recovery. This response is regulated and genetically programmed in a very intricate yet coordinated way. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) have emerged as game-changers in modulating plant responses to drought and other abiotic stresses by mediating critical genetic regulations. The ncRNAs interact with their targets to create conceivably subtle regulatory networks that regulate numerous genes to affect how plants react as a whole. Different plant species have a large number of long and short drought-responsive ncRNAs that have been identified and characterized. MiRNA-based research has a better track record than lncRNA and transposon-derived RNAs, whose cellular functions are just now starting to be understood. We have gathered data on the classification of non-coding RNAs based on their biogenesis and function for this review. We also go over the literature that is currently available on the function of long and short non-coding RNAs in reducing drought stress in plants.
