Description

Title: Resistance of bacteria to antibiotics

Abstract: Concerns about bacterial pathogens as infection-causing agents are grave in the field of public health. Particularly, bacteria that are resistant to numerous antimicrobial substances can undermine the effectiveness of chemotherapeutic treatments for infectious diseases. Numerous molecular and cellular mechanisms for antimicrobial resistance are present in multidrug-resistant bacteria. These antimicrobial resistance mechanisms include active antimicrobial efflux, decreased drug entry into pathogen cells, enzyme-mediated antimicrobial agent metabolism to inactive products, biofilm formation, altered drug targets, and protection of antimicrobial targets. These microbial systems make for good research targets for figuring out how to get around them and re-establish therapeutic efficacy. The various antimicrobial resistance mechanisms that are stored within infectious bacteria are briefly summarized in this review.
