Title: Recent Developments in Phototherapeutic Biomaterials Based on Polyaniline for the Treatment of Tumors and Bacterial Infections
Abstract: Because of their inherent limitations, conventional treatments fall short of completely eliminating tumors or bacterial infections. Photothermal therapy (PTT) has become a popular treatment option in recent years. A method of treatment that depends on photothermal agents’ (PTAs’) ability to absorb light energy at a particular wavelength and convert it to heat. The benefits of PTT include its high specificity, low toxicity to healthy tissues, and high efficacy. For PTT applications, a variety of inorganic nanomaterials, including gold nanostructures, carbon nanostructures, and transition metal dichalcogenides, have been thoroughly investigated. Consequently, the development has come into focus. polymeric PTAs over inorganic PTAs because of their special qualities like biodegradability, biocompatibility, non-immunogenicity, and low toxicity. Polyaniline (PANI) is one of the most well-known and first reported organic PTAs among the various organic PTAs. Because of this, we discuss the development of PANI-based biomaterials for PTT applications in tumors and bacterial infections in this review. There is also discussion of this fascinating field’s promising future.
