Description
Title: Quality vs. quantity Argumentation’s effects on negative news letters
Abstract: Does the approach used to assess negative messages depend on the number or quality of the arguments taken into account? Two separate experiments involving the distribution of bad news letters were carried out in order to explore this problem and find a solution. In these investigations, the caliber of the arguments and the total number of reasons were realistically altered in accordance to the investigation’s conditions. Adding logic to letters increases their persuasiveness and gives the reader the feeling that they are more courteous, according to the results of the two studies. The findings from both studies supported this. The findings of the study also show that persuasive arguments are far more effective than non-persuasive ones. Additionally, it has been demonstrated that the conclusion is strengthened by the supporting evidence. Contrarily, the findings demonstrate that only one or two arguments are required to back up a claim. When a third explanation is introduced, the findings are only marginally (or even barely) improved.
