Description

Title: Prostate Cancer Prevention by Phytochemicals: Molecular Mechanisms Research

Abstract: One of the leading causes of death for men worldwide is prostate cancer. Treatment for prostate cancer has become more aggressive and intensive due to the emergence of resistance, toxicity, and side effects from conventional therapies. Numerous phytochemicals derived from plants have been found to be cytotoxic to tumors. Natural substances can influence cancer cell growth by modulating a number of critical cellular signaling pathways that are frequently dysregulated in prostate cancer, according to in vitro laboratory studies. Numerous organic substances have been demonstrated to induce cell cycle arrest, stimulate apoptosis, obstruct the growth of cancer cells, and inhibit angiogenesis. Pre-clinical studies further suggest that the combinatorial use of natural compounds with hormone and/or chemotherapeutic drugs appears to be a promising strategy to enhance the therapeutic effect in a less toxic way. In this context, we conducted a systematic review of the literature on naturally occurring substances extracted from fruits, vegetables, teas, and herbs, along with their pertinent mechanisms of action in prostate cancer. This review discusses and emphasizes the implicated molecular pathways of cell proliferation, cell cycle control, apoptosis, and autophagy as significant processes that regulate tumor angiogenesis, invasion, and metastasis. There is growing evidence that phytochemicals interfere with a variety of molecular pathways in prostate cancer. In conclusion, the development of new drugs and the optimization of drug combinations will be facilitated by the elucidation of the chemical structure-based anti-cancer mechanisms of natural compounds. Prostate cancer can be treated with phytochemicals, which have significant health advantages for people.
