Title: Poverty Analysis and Measurement: A Composite Indicator Approach Based on Interval Data
Abstract: One of the most important but unsolved issues in social science is the study of poverty and its quantification. This study aims to evaluate poverty as a multidimensional concept using a new composite indicator. However, perceptions of the indicator may be impacted by subjective choices, such as different weighting systems used in its development. We suggest using a variety of composite indicators at random, each based on simulated weightings and specifications, to address this problem and produce an interval-based composite indicator that is comprehensive. Based on an insightful conceptual model of poverty, our methodology generates reliable and trustworthy measurements. Additionally, to assist in the analysis of extreme situations and policy scenarios, we use some interval parameters, such as the upper bound, center, and lower bound, to compare the various intervals related to the various statistical units and rankings. We identify urgent situations in Sicily, Calabria, Campania, and Puglia. The results show a reliable indicator measurement and the impact of the shadow sector on the final measurements.
