Title: Potential significance of endotelin in patients with ostr zatorowoci pucn and wikszym zatorowo-zakrzepowym nadcinieniem pucnym
Abstract: Endothelins (ET), a family of three peptides with potent vasoconstrictive effects, play a role in controlling blood flow and vascular tone. The pulmonary vasculature is where the ET is primarily synthesized and degraded. Different types of arterial pulmonary hypertension, including chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, have been associated with elevated plasma ET levels (CTEPH). Bosentan, a nonselective ET receptor antagonist, has also been shown in clinical studies to improve functional class in CTEPH patients. Endothelins have been speculated to be crucial in acute pulmonary thromboembolism (APE). Further research is required to support these findings, though. We discuss the potential function of endothelins in CTEPH and APE in the current paper.
