Description
Title: Plants with Virus Resistance Mediated by CRISPR/Cas
Abstract: The CRISPR/Cas9 system offers a stable and flexible platform with great potential for genome editing aimed at producing useful products. In comparison to earlier antiviral approaches, it has been used extensively to create resistance against viruses that infect plants, and as a result, holds promise for reducing crop losses. We have discussed reports of CRISPR/Cas-based virus resistance tactics against plant viruses in this review. These tactics include methods that target one or more genes (or non-coding regions) in the viral genome as well as host factors crucial to the spread of the virus. Base editing has also been discussed as a way to create virus-resistant plants without the use of transgenes. The effectiveness of these methods is also compared in this review. We conclude by discussing combinatorial strategies, such as multiplexing, to improve editing effectiveness and prevent the production of escape mutants.
