Title: Patogeneza and the clinic for non-astmatic removal of the ossicles
Abstract: The development of induced sputum as a diagnostic and research tool made it possible to define nonasthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis, which is characterized by a persistent cough in patients who do not exhibit any other symptoms or objective signs of variable airflow obstruction, as well as normal airway hyperresponsiveness and eosinophilia in the sputum. A significant contributing factor to chronic cough is eosinophilic bronchitis. Nonasthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis makes up 10 to 30% of cases that are referred for specialized investigation, according to studies that have assessed airway inflammation in patients with chronic cough. Similar to asthma, eosinophilic bronchitis is characterized by airway inflammation, but unlike asthma, there is no bronchoconstriction or airway hyperresponsiveness. Both asthma and eosinophilic bronchitis share a similar airway immunopathology. The association between an ostensibly similar pattern of airway inflammation and various functional abnormalities in patients with nonasthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis and asthma raises an obvious question. With airway smooth muscle infiltration occurring in patients with asthma and epithelial infiltration occurring in patients with nonasthmatic eosinophilic bronchitis, the differences in functional association may be related to variations in the localization of mast cells within the airway wall.
