Title: New Therapeutic Perspectives for Neuroprotection, Aging, and Neuroinflammation for the Modern Age with Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate (EGCG)
Abstract: The two most prevalent neurodegenerative diseases are Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Although the precise cause of these disorders is not well understood, environmental, molecular, and genetic factors have a significant impact on the pathogenesis of these illnesses. Amyloid Beta (A) peptide aggregation, mitochondrial dysfunction, synaptic degradation brought on by inflammation, elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS), and cerebrovascular dysregulation are some of the pathological findings using Alzheimer’s disease (AD) as the archetype. Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a well-known nutraceutical that has shown promise in modulating AD progression due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging properties, is highlighted in this review for its neuroinflammatory and neuroprotective properties. This study offers fresh ideas for using EGCG as a preventive measure to treat AD and other neurodegenerative diseases while also re-examining the existing literature.
