Description

Title: New Challenges for Pakistan’s Technical Vocational Education and Training in the Light of CPEC

Abstract: In Pakistan, there are abundant natural and human resources. In the new developmental period, the importance of highly skilled workers has increased significantly, but it is also undeniable that Pakistan’s shortage of such workers is growing. Technical Vocational Education and Training was established in Pakistan in order to prepare a skilled workforce for a variety of industries and sectors; however, the 60% level of young, unskilled, and semi-skilled labor emerging from informal and non-formal sectors is largely attributed to the failure of Technical Vocational Education and Training to meet the country’s needs for trained manpower for the economy and China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPECP). Part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which promoted economic cooperation and development between the two nations, saw China and Pakistan launch significant projects like CPEC. The overview and curriculum of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Pakistan will be covered in this article. The main goal of this study is to demonstrate how the lack of qualified workers that TVET in general, and CPEC in particular, are experiencing is due to a variety of other factors, including outdated equipment, a lack of industry connectivity, inadequate skills, unemployment, and so on. The study uses a qualitative research methodology and is descriptive and exploratory in nature. Utilizing information gathered from 500 students and staff respondents, including teachers, TVET workers, and TVET job holders, the perspectives of the TVET challenges in Pakistan were studied. The fact that the current state of TVET institutions is unquestionably caused by infrastructure problems and a lack of funding is one of the study’s key findings. Additionally, TVET in Pakistan is characterized by poor teacher preparation, a lack of industry connectivity, unemployment, and female participation. Recommendations in this study were made in light of the research analysis and findings.
