Abstract: Due to the rising frequency of wounds from accidents, surgeries, burns, and chronic illnesses like diabetes, such as diabetes, wounds continue to be a serious medical concern. Infectious microbes can cause delays in the healing process, especially when they take the biofilm form and cause a long-lasting infection. Antibiotic resistance is well known to be increased in biofilms. It is necessary to create new drug formulations and materials for wound dressings that combine antibacterial, antibiofilm, and wound healing properties. Due to their small size and enormous surface area, nanomaterials (NM) have special properties that enable a wide range of applications. Numerous NMs have promising applicability to a range of wound types due to their antimicrobial activity coupled with wound regeneration properties. There have been numerous recent reviews of the use of nanomaterials as antimicrobials, and the concept of NM-based antibiotics has at least been around for ten years. The question of whether these NMs actually improve wound healing outcomes, however, has received much less attention. In this review, we give an overview of various nanomaterial types that have been researched specifically for wound healing and infection control capabilities.
