Title: MIXED REALITY-BASED FENCING TRAINING IMMERSIVE FEEDBACK
Abstract: It is both helpful and difficult to give athletes real-time feedback during sports training that is based on the automatic analysis of motion. This study proposes and validates a novel mixed reality-based system. The system enables fencing training with immersive and real-time visual feedback. By recording a coach’s actions and comparing the trainee’s performance to the models, novel techniques have been introduced for 3D blade tracking from a single RGB camera. A method for coordinate mapping between the virtual and real environments is proposed, and augmented reality glasses with see-through displays are used. This will enable the provision of real-time visual cues and feedback by overlaying virtual trajectories on the real-world view. The system has undergone experimental validation in training for bladework in fencing (with the supervision of a fencing coach). The outcomes show that the suggested system enables inexperienced fencers to carry out their drills more precisely.
