Title: Medical Plants’ Antidiabetic Potential and Active Ingredients
Abstract: One of the major health issues facing the world today is diabetes mellitus, whose prevalence and related mortality are rising. Poor blood sugar control has detrimental effects on one’s health. Although traditional anti-diabetic medications work well, they also have unavoidable side effects. However, medicinal plants can serve as a different source of antidiabetic medications. Focus is placed on preclinical and clinical studies as examples of medicinal plants with potential for treating diabetes are given. The coordinated and combined action of each plant’s profile of biologically active compounds determines the potential health benefits of each plant matrix.
