Title: Measurement of the Spatial Electron Density in a Hydrogen Pellet Ablation Cloud
Abstract: In the Large Helical Device, a spectroscopic technique for measuring spatial resolution in fuel pellet ablation clouds is being developed (LHD). A narrow, band-shaped field of view in optics is necessary to achieve spatial resolution. Using a spectral lineshape code, the Stark-broadened Hb emission line of a deuterium pellet ablation cloud is isolated and examined. Through least squares fitting, the ablation cloud’s electron density profile along its elongation direction is obtained. The obtained profile is peaked with a dip in the middle, supporting the results of simulations. Additionally, the derived electron densities’ order of magnitudes agree with what has already been discovered in the LHD.
