Title: lung ultrasound’s value in identifying the root causes of exacerbations in chronic dyspnea patients
Abstract: Dyspnea is a vague symptom that needs prompt diagnosis, a precise diagnosis, and appropriate treatment. Exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and chronic heart failure are the two most typical causes of dyspnea (CHF). In order to diagnose emergencies, it appears that making a distinction between these two medical conditions is essential. However, some of the fundamental diagnostic methods used in emergency rooms, such as the classic radiography (X-ray) of the chest, the electrocardiogram (ECG), and the b-type natriuretic peptide test, can be confusing. Therefore, it seems reasonable and necessary to search for additional diagnostic tools. A quick and simple test, transthoracic lung ultrasound assessment, allows for the early and precise diagnosis of pulmonary oedema and its differentiation from other, non-cardiac causes of dyspnea. This review provides an overview of current knowledge on transthoracic lung ultrasound (TLUS), with a focus on its clinical utility in identifying the root causes of dyspnea exacerbation.
