Abstract: Writing that appears to have been done on the Spot has arisen as a vital type of discourse and technique of communication in online chats, instant messengers, and many other social media platforms. However, particularly in research on the writing process, they have received a comparatively low amount of attention. Ho, sway. This piece of work presents the results of an empirical study that entailed recording the keystrokes of chat users while they were taking part in a game. After assessing and fitting the distributions of the inter-key intervals with ex-Gaussian distribution equations, a case is shown for the psycholinguistic interpretation of the distribution parameters. This interpretation is offered after the evaluation. “Following this experiment’s findings, one may conclude that employing a cutoff period of 500 milliseconds is the most effective method for recognizing breaks in spontaneous writing. In addition, we demonstrate how pauses lasting longer than 1.2 seconds may indicate higher-level language processing that extends beyond the comprehension of straightforward propositional statements (functional element of the discourse).”
