Description
Title: idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and lung cancer coexisting
Abstract: The interstitial lung disease idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) has a poor prognosis. IPF is linked to the development of lung cancer, which further worsens the prognosis, despite the fact that the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. Depending on the observation period, various papers report PF and cancer coexistence in 9.8% to over 50% of patients. Contrary to widely accepted recommendations for treating lung cancer in the general population, there are none for the IPF population. Various oncologic interventions can concurrently cause an acute exacerbation of IPF. The authors of this paper attempted to update the information on lung cancer in individuals who already had IPF.
