Title: Gallstone Formation Factors: A Review of the Literature
Abstract: A common pathology of the digestive system, gallstone disease affects roughly 10–20% of adults. Cholecystectomy is the mainstay of treatment; however, it is frequently accompanied by physical pain and may significantly impair a patient’s quality of life. According to clinical studies, the age, gender, body mass index, and other fundamental physical characteristics of patients are all closely related to cholelithiasis. Additionally, clinical research suggests that obesity, diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and other illnesses are linked to the development of cholelithiasis. In order to better understand these causes, we looked at genetic factors, excessive liver cholesterol secretion (which results in cholesterol supersaturation in gallbladder bile), accelerated growth of solid cholesterol crystals, impaired gallbladder motility, and cardiovascular factors. In this article, we discuss potential mechanisms for cholelithiasis, discuss its relationship to the pathogenesis of related diseases, and summarize and analyze its causes and mechanisms.
