Title: Financial Inclusion Indicators Impact Jordanian Commercial Banks’ Profitability: A Panel Data Analysis
Abstract: Although prior research has supported the idea that financial inclusion promotes economic growth and reduces poverty, it is still unknown whether financial inclusion boosts bank profitability. The study makes the assumption that financial inclusion is important in boosting the economy and reducing loan accounts. In line with this assumption, the deposit size lowers the profitability of Jordanian banks even though access to and use of financial services have no discernible impact on this profitability. The main profitability factors that were looked at in this study were financial leverage and financial inclusion. The data from 13 Jordanian banks from 2009 to 2019 were examined in this study to determine the aforementioned problem. On a panel data regression model, fixed effects were used in the study. The results showed that Jordan’s commercial banks’ ability to remain profitable was adversely and significantly impacted by the quantity of loan accounts and size of deposits. However, the profitability of the bank was unaffected significantly by the number of branches and ATMs. Overall, the two main factors affecting the profitability of commercial banks in Jordan were leverage and bank size. According to the findings, Jordanian policymakers should concentrate on providing affordable financial services to aid SMEs in obtaining loans and starting up.
