Title: EXTENSION OF iSTAR TO SUPPORT BIG DATA PROJECTS: FORMAL VERIFICATION
Abstract: Any system’s success depends on determining all of the necessary requirements. In the initial stages, these requirements must be precisely engineered. Generally speaking, due to the importance and characteristics of big data, the cost of late corrections is estimated to be more than 200 times higher than the cost of corrections made during requirements engineering (RE). Big data project requirements cannot be elicited using current RE methods, according to a thorough analysis of the big data literature. We introduce BiStar (an extension of iStar) in this study to handle big data characteristics like volume, variety, etc. First, some concepts that are missing or not supported by the current RE techniques are identified. Then, BiStar is presented to address the requirements while taking big data-specific characteristics into account. Formal proofs are made by conducting a bigraph-based description on iStar and BiStar in order to guarantee the integrity property of BiStar. Finally, the same illustrative scenario is applied to both iStar and BiStar. BiStar is more effective at gathering requirements for big data projects because it produces encouraging results.
