Title: Evidence from 10 European Countries on the Impact of COVID-19 on Firm Survival and Owner Gender
Abstract: In order to examine the relationship between the gender of the firm’s owner and the firm’s survival through 2020, this paper uses firm-level data from World Bank Enterprise surveys conducted in 2019 and COVID-19 follow-up surveys conducted in 2020 in ten European countries. In the empirical study, firm characteristics that are known to be associated with firm survival are controlled for using econometric models. According to all other things being equal, female ownership has a positive effect. Additionally, it can be said that this estimated effect is large on average. Businesses that had female owners fared better.
