Title: Evaluation of Four Types of Distiller’s Grains’ Chemical Composition, Bioactive Substance, Gas Production, and Rumen Fermentation Parameters
Abstract: Distiller’s grain is a fantastic antioxidant feed for goats because it is high in natural active ingredients. An in vitro gas production trial was used in the current study to evaluate the feeding value of four different types of distiller’s grains. The parameters for rumen fermentation, methane, hydrogen, total phenols, total anthocyanins, dry matter degradability, and chemical composition were assessed. The findings showed that the levels of crude protein in red distiller’s grain and glutinous rice distiller’s grain were higher (p 0.05) than those in the other two types. Dry matter, ether extract, hemicellulose, and total carbohydrate concentrations in corn distiller’s grain were significantly (p 0.05) higher than those in the other three types of distiller’s grain. Additionally, compared to the other three types of distiller’s grains, red distiller’s grain demonstrated a higher (p 0.05) gas production rate constant (c), ruminal outflow rate, and concentrations of total phenol, anthocyanins, and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activity. In contrast, compared to the other samples, red distiller’s grain had the lowest (p 0.05) immediately soluble fraction (a) and the shortest maximum gas production time. Particularly, white distiller’s grain and glutinous rice distiller’s grain had higher methane levels (%) than red distiller’s grain (p 0.05). Additionally, red distiller’s grain had a higher ammonia nitrogen content (p 0.05) than white and corn distiller’s grain. As opposed to white distiller’s grain and corn distiller’s grain, red distiller’s grain showed a lower (p 0.05) level of ruminal fluid acetic acid. Overall, the findings suggested that red distiller’s grain and glutinous rice distiller’s grain could be used as protein feed, that red distiller’s grain had higher levels of total phenols and total anthocyanins and a high DPPH scavenging activity, that red distiller’s grain could be used as a feed for alternative energy sources, and that white distiller’s grain produced more total gas.
