Title: Economic Growth and Regional Stock Exchange Development in West African Economic and Monetary Union Member States (WAEMU)
Abstract: The West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) countries’ regional stock exchange development and economic growth were examined in this study using panel data spanning 27 years. Using six indicators for the stock and financial markets and six for the control, we conducted a homogeneous Granger non-causality analysis using an autoregressive distributed lag model (ARDL) and Markov-switching analysis. The findings supported the supply leading hypothesis by demonstrating a close economic relationship between WAEMU countries and causality from the regional stock exchange. Depending on the variable, both the short-term and long-term effects of the causality were confirmed. Four market measurements’ economic growth yielded the causal connections that underpin the demand-driven hypothesis.
