Abstract: This study investigates how grammatical subjects behave in speech and the findings and discussion parts of four academic fields’ research publications. To achieve this, sixteen findings and discussion portions were assessed using Gosden’s categories for the discourse functions of grammatical subjects from our areas of study that pertain to teaching English as a Second Language, Economics, Biology, and Civil Engineering. Four results and discussion sections were created from each region993). There were noticeable disparities between the four sets of results and discussion sections on how grammatical subjects are used in dialogue. These variances resulted from the diversity of fields. The grammatical subject’s four discourse functions, each of which has its distinct subcategory, provided a clear illustration of the contrasts across the many academic fields. Grammatical subject, discourse function, results, discussion section, and disciplinary difference are some of the terms discussed in this conclusion. This conclusion supports the idea that the discourse functions of the grammatical subject are closely linked to the goals, conventions, and practices of certain academic subjects and the contexts in which they are fulfilled.
