Title: Curcumin’s Therapeutic Potential as an Antimycobacterial Agent
Abstract: The primary curcuminoid found in the plant Curcuma longa, curcumin, has undergone extensive research to determine its biological and chemical characteristics. Numerous pharmacological characteristics of curcumin include antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antitumor activity. Particularly, curcumin has been connected to an improvement in tuberculosis outcomes. Reviews of curcumin’s pharmacological effects are widely available, but those examining its antitubercular activity are much less common. In this review, we try to talk about the various aspects of the investigation into curcumin’s antitubercular activity. These include the enhancement of BCG vaccine effectiveness, host immune response regulation, and antimycobacterial activity. We’ll talk about recent developments in curcumin’s hepatoprotective properties, the antimycobacterial activity of its synthetic derivatives, the role of computer-aided drug design in identifying curcumin targets, and curcumin’s dosage and toxicology. While increasing evidence favors the utilization of Before recommending the use of curcumin formulations in public health, additional preclinical and clinical investigations into curcumin and its derivatives for tuberculosis therapy are crucial.
