Title: Crop Production with Nanobionics: A New Method to Change Plant Functions
Abstract: One of the main Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations is “Zero Hunger.” To meet the demands of a population that is constantly expanding, crop production improvements have therefore always been a top priority. In the past ten years, research has recognized the importance of increasing nutrient use efficiency (NUE) and increasing photosynthesis in raising crop yields. With their profitable abilities to interact with the biological system, recent applications of nanobionics in crop production have offered hope. The ability of plants to modulate their capacity for photosynthesis has greatly benefited from nanobionics. It has been shown that nanobionics could help plants by functioning as a synthetic photosynthetic system to increase photosynthetic capacity, electron transfer in the photosystems, pigment content, and light absorption across the UV-visible spectrum. When exposed to external stimuli, intelligent nanocarriers like nanobionics can deliver the active ingredient nanocarrier. This can significantly increase NUE, lower waste, and increase cost effectiveness. Thus, the focus of this review is on using nanobionics in the two methods mentioned above to increase crop yield. Significant issues and potential outcomes related to the use of nanobionics are succinctly discussed.
