Title: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease arterial and venous thromboembolism: pathogenic mechanisms, prevention, and treatment
Abstract: About 10% of adults over the age of 40 have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which is a significant cause of death and disability in elderly people. Cardiovascular comorbidities are present in a significant portion of COPD patients. Thromboembolic incidents significantly increase morbidity and mortality in these patients. The current research on the link between COPD and elevated thromboembolic risk is summarized in this review. We go over various possible connections between these ailments and pharmacological treatments that lower the risk of thrombotic arterial and venous events, paying particular attention to new oral anticoagulants.
