Title: Challenges and Prospects of Multi-Organs-on-Chips for Small-Molecule Drug Testing
Abstract: Small-molecule drugs have been tested using organ-on-a-chip technology to examine potential therapeutics and regulatory procedures. In the upcoming years, it is anticipated that the technology will hasten the discovery of new drug combinations and promote the development of novel therapeutics. This prompted the creation of multi-organ-on-a-chip (MOC) for simulating various organs involved in the interactions between drugs and the body. The current MOCs for small-molecule drug screening are discussed in this review, after which the dynamic process of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion is highlighted. We also discuss scale-up capacity suitable for high-performance drug analysis and commercial high-throughput screening platforms, as well as appropriate materials used for MOCs at low cost.
