Title: Brassinosteroid Therapeutic Potential in Biomedical and Clinical Research
Abstract: In multicellular organisms, the hormone class known as steroids plays a crucial role in the regulation of growth and signal transduction. Widespread uses of synthetic steroids include the treatment of a variety of bacterial, fungal, viral, and cancerous infections. A naturally occurring group of phytosterols with structural similarities to animal steroids are known as brassinosteroids (BRs). BRs are found everywhere in the kingdom of plants. These plant steroids have a well-established ability to control a wide range of physiological responses in plants, improving both the quality and yield of food crops. Additionally, it has been discovered that they play a crucial part in fortifying plants against a variety of stresses. Due to their varied biological activities in animal systems, BRs have attracted interest on a global scale for more than ten years. Recent research has found that BRs have bioactivities against cancer, angiogenesis, viruses, genotoxicity, fungal growth, and bacteria in animal test systems. In addition to causing cytotoxic effects on cancerous cell lines, BRs also prevent viral replication. This review is an effort to update information about the potential of BRs in biomedical and clinical application while keeping in mind the biological activities of BRs.
