Title: Between 5610 and 6110, Neutral Lanthanum’s Optogalvanic Spectrum
Abstract: In the spectral range 5610-6110 (17,851 to 16,364 cm1), we present a complete optogalvanic spectrum of a discharge burning in a La-Ar gas mixture. To cover this range, approximately 1900 overlapping 1 to 1.5 cm wide laser scans were required. The Doppler width of the spectral features limits the resolution of the spectra to approximately 0.03 cm1 (or ca. 0.01 ), which is comparable to a Fourier-transform spectrum but with much higher sensitivity. In fact, out of over 1800 lines, about 800 could be categorized as transitions between well-known energy levels. By activating unclassified spectral features, the investigations’ main goal was to find previously undiscovered energy levels.
