Title: A Review of Microbially Originated Thrombolytic Enzymes
Abstract: Due to their high affinity, specificity, catalytic activity, and stability, enzyme therapies are currently receiving a lot of attention as thrombolytic drugs. Due to their favorable cost-benefit ratio and widespread production, microbially derived thrombolytic and fibrinolytic enzymes hold promise among other sources for the prevention and treatment of vascular occlusion. The primary cause of poor prognosis and mortality is thrombotic complications, which include stroke, myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, deep venous thrombosis, and peripheral occlusive diseases brought on by blood vessel blockage. The use of microbial thrombolytic enzymes as a potential thrombolytic therapy has generated a lot of interest due to their capacity to dissolve blood clots and prevent any negative effects. The efficacy and safety of this treatment approach over conventional thrombolytic agents may be improved with a better understanding of the hemostasis and fibrinolytic system. Here, we succinctly go over the physiological basis of thrombus formation, thrombo-, and fibrinolysis, as well as the mode of action of thrombolytic and fibrinolytic agents derived from bacteria, fungi, and algae, and the potential use of microbial enzymes in the treatment of thrombosis.
